There were 6,427 new patents issued at the US Patent Office for the week of May 11, 2021, not counting the Design and Reissue patents. There were 3,073 patents issued to inventors in the United States broken out by state in the following. Alaska and Mississippi with a goose egg for the week. Hawaii, Maine, Montana, and North Dakota not far ahead with only one each.

The top ten longest time to patent grant for the week. Cook Medical comes in number one with 6,224 days from filing to issuance. The patent is titled “Flexible sheath with varying durometer”.
The top ten shortest time to patent grant for the week was between 88 and 112 days. Well done to the teams!
Another solid week for blockchain patents granted with 23 new grants. Advanced New Technologies continues to build their portfolio with six new issued patents this week.
A slow week with only 7 new Electric Vehicle patents. SF Motors continues to show up with new patents issued and new applications filed. I will have to track their progress much closer.
Eight new LiDAR related patents issued this week. $BIDU, $GM, and $LAZR all added to their portfolios. Blackmore Sensors & Analytics was bought by Aurora Innovation in 2019.
Two COVID related patents were issued this week.

$VHC filed their Q1 2021 financial report. Nothing new on the operations/licensing side to report. The company disclosed they lost the arbitration matter with their old legal firm McKool Smith, which was awarded $36,323,000 + interest, totaling $38,284,000. The amount was paid on April 20, 2021.
As I have repeatedly written on Twitter I have closed a substantial long positions in early 2021. With the recent market pullback, I have started building a shopping list if we finally get a 10-20% market correction. I am mostly looking for companies with a solid cash foundation, no debt, and IP/Patent moat. The list is being built and will be shared in next week’s edition.
