March 23, 2021 Patents by Numbers A Special Auto Edition
There were 6,670 new patents issued at the US Patent Office, not counting the Design and Reissue patents. There were 3,565 patents issued to inventors in the United States broken out by state in the following:
Below is the breakdown for the top countries assignee new patents issued:
The table below are some of the top Assignees of the week.
For the special Auto edition I obtained the patents issued on March 23, 2021. The US Patent Office every Tuesday releases the list of patents issued for the week. I was frustrated with the Ark Tesla report released over the weekend and wanted to show the other auto makers are not messing around with their R&D and pushing the limits of inventions and innovations. I believe the assumptions ARK made will be proven very wrong sooner than later as the billions of dollars in R&D spend by the other automakers will convert to technological advances in their new vehicles. This will lead to shrinking ASP’s and margins across the EV sector. Remember these are the US patents that are granted for just this week. Week to week the numbers are very similar +/- 8 per company.
The technologies covered include:
Self / Autonomous Driving
Lidar
Batteries
Manufacturing
Body Structure
Safety Features
Collision Alert
Lane Assist
Emissions
Link to the full PDF of the spreadsheet. I was having difficulty uploading the entire sheet to Substack and gave up.
Below are two images, which you can click to enlarge. There are 39 pages in total within the full document. Remember this is just one week of grants. The abstract is a brief summary of the invention and what the patent covers.
